Matthew James Wang is a Vice President and Private Wealth Manager with Merrill Private Wealth Management in New York City. Matt provides sustained leadership, advice, and coordination to high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals, families, and institutions, helping them accomplish more with their wealth. He recognizes that significant wealth is different—in its scale, opportunities, complexities, and challenges. Working in concert with dedicated specialists, Matt looks to deliver a different kind of client experience—one that reflects the discipline, empathy, and commitment he brings to his role.

Matt serves as a gateway to a suite of private-wealth services, from tailored portfolio design and trust and estate planning services to pre-liquidity event planning, executive compensation, concentrated and restricted stock strategies, and intergenerational stewardship. He appreciates the distinctive issues associated with varied sources of wealth, including real estate, private equity, hedge funds, private businesses, public companies, and inherited wealth. To each client’s situation, Matt offers a readiness to immerse himself in the details of clients’ financial lives so that he can better support steady progress toward their goals.

Matt has worked at Merrill since 2015. Prior to his current role, he was a Vice President in Global Prime Financing, where he was responsible for Bank of America’s Mercury Prime Brokerage applications, overseeing the Client Experience platform. He earned his M.B.A. from Columbia Business School, where he was the recipient of the Ethan R. Hanabury Student Representative Award for his leadership and service. Matt holds an undergraduate degree in Nuclear Engineering Management from the United States Military Academy. He was a Captain in the United States Army, serving from 2006 to 2015 and earning a Bronze Star Medal for his actions during combat in Afghanistan. His military honors also include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the NATO Medal, and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal.

Active in his community, Matt is a board member of the Veteran Leadership Development Group. Within Bank of America, he volunteers as the Enterprise Finance Co-Chair for the Military Support & Assistance Group (MSAG) and is also the Program Development Co-Chair with the Parent & Caregiver Network (PCN). Previously, Matt served as a docent at The Alamo.

Matt and his wife Chloe live in Westchester County with their young twins, a boy and a girl. In his free time, Matt likes to play and watch basketball and football. Originally from Guam, he is an avid traveler and is happy to share ideas about Guam or Palau, his parents’ homeland, as well as two of his favorite destinations, Malta and Sicily.
