Rich McHugh is a Senior Vice President, Private Wealth Advisor, and Portfolio Manager at Merrill Private Wealth Management. He works with leaders in business, members of accomplished families, and successful individuals. His mission is to help clients navigate the complexities of wealth through the advice and capabilities of Merrill Private Wealth Management's world class infrastructure. Rich and his team service a limited numbers of families to ensure highly personalized experiences. He places high emphasis on making the institution fit his clients and not vice versa.

Rich has extensive experience in traditional and alternative investments, portfolio management, short-term cash management, financing, and estate planning strategies.* He begins each relationship by gaining a thorough understanding of an individual or family’s background, financial picture, goals, and expectations. Helping to return time and giving financial confidence to clients is his greatest satisfaction.

Prior to joining Merrill, Rich worked at J.P. Morgan Private Bank in the Chicago, New York, and Seattle offices. His financial services career began in 2008. He earned a B.A. in Political Science and Government from Purdue University and a M.S. in Finance from DePaul University. He grew up in Chicago, IL and lives in Los Altos, CA. In his free time, he enjoys art, golf, skiing, and travel.

  • Wealth planning. We are deliberate, methodical and analytical in our approach. We tackle large-scale wealth planning initiatives in a sequenced and logical manner, laying out a deliberate path toward pursuing each client’s objectives.
  • Customized credit. Clients look to us for assistance in financing marquis real estate acquisitions, as well as aircraft, marine vessels, art and other luxury goods. Our parent company Bank of America provides clients with a timely and responsive framework to negotiate customized lending on a client’s behalf.
  • Legacy design. From next-generation education and stewardship to large-scale philanthropy, we support clients in visualizing, advancing and confirming their long-term legacies. Our approach is collaborative, drawing on the advice and guidance of specialists, both within the firm and beyond.
