Solutions designed to help you achieve your goals

As a client of Merrill Private Wealth Management, you have access to services and resources ordinarily reserved for the world’s largest institutions. We work with individuals, families spanning multiple generations, business owners and executives. Using a goals-based wealth management approach, we put our clients at the center of every personalized strategy.

Our Approach

Our Philosophy

We believe your unique goals should be at the center of all of your financial decisions and form the foundation of your financial strategy. Because significant wealth requires customized goals-based financial strategies, we believe in building lasting relationships with a limited number of clients, taking the time to understand your most important priorities for today, tomorrow and your long-term future. Our philosophy celebrates collaboration. Working with a team of specialists, we draw on the resources and insights of a global financial institution to create strategies that reflect your aspirations for yourself and current and future generations of your family. Finally, we believe that while significant wealth brings complex challenges, our experience, passion and perspectives can help you simplify your life.

A Disciplined Approach to Serving Families and Institutions

Barrons.jpg

Since 1998, The Slater King Fitzenreiter Group has helped address the sophisticated investment needs of an exclusive group of affluent individuals and families, as well as a select number of associations and nonprofit groups. As a private wealth management team, we understand that substantial wealth entails both significant challenges and unique opportunities.

Committed to providing the highest level of personalized service and attention, we leverage over 100 years of collective experience, market acumen and professional skills—together with access to the investing insights of Merrill and the banking convenience of Bank of America—to help private clients and institutions simplify their financial lives and pursue their goals and missions. Our goal is to help them manage their wealth so that it has a positive impact on their life and on the lives of generations to come.

Clients Are Our Most Important Asset

We limit our clientele so that we can spend the time necessary to gain an in-depth understanding of your needs, desires and values. We strive to be readily accessible and communicate with you regularly in the way that works best for you: face-to-face or via telephone or e-mail. We treat you with respect and consideration. In short, we treat you the way we would like to be treated if our roles were reversed.

Customized Wealth Management Strategies

Teamworking_032.jpgRecognizing that each client has different needs, we begin our wealth management process by trying to gain a complete picture of who you are and what you want to accomplish. A long-term, integrated wealth management strategy incorporating your values, priorities and wishes can offer a road map toward pursuing your financial aspirations.

Understanding Risk on Your Terms

We can assist you in building a balanced portfolio, diversified among various asset classes, that is designed to help you pursue your investment objectives while managing risk. From time to time we may advise you to tactically rebalance your portfolio by over- or underweighting an asset class relative to your target allocation.

Discretionary Portfolio Management

You can delegate to Bill Slater, J.J. King and Scott Fitzenreiter discretion over certain investment decisions surrounding your investment strategy. Once we have confirmed your goals and life priorities, as well as identified your portfolio investment objective, time horizon, risk factor and liquidity needs, we will recommend targeted asset allocations for your portfolios to help meet your specific investment objectives. Granting Bill, J.J. and Scott authority allows them to respond to market changes, price volatility and global events with the ability to make adjustments, if needed, to help your portfolio stay on track to meet your goals. To help you track and assess performance, we will regularly review your portfolio with you, and you will receive periodic communications, including monthly statements, quarterly portfolio summary updates and annual performance reports.

"We appreciate that every client is unique. We leverage our experience working with institutional as well as individual clients to help them select well-respected portfolio managers appropriate to their specific investment policy statement goals, needs and desires."

J.J. King
Private Wealth Advisor

A Thorough and Disciplined Process

In working with you, we start with a detailed discovery process in which we seek to understand your organization's values, what you want your investments to accomplish, how you make decisions, your donor base and what your time horizon, risk tolerance and liquidity requirements are. What we learn drives our investment process, which is aimed at helping you create customized portfolios aligned with your values and goals and designed to help manage downside risk while generating the performance necessary to support your mission. This process, in which we draw on our decades of industry experience together with the intellectual capital, robust due diligence and award–winning* research of BofA Global Research, includes:

Assessment of goals, objectives and mission: We begin by reviewing your organization's mission statement. This document is the basis for all decisions made relative to its long–term investment activities. We'll also evaluate your organization's asset structure and liability management requirements.

Coordination of spending and investment policy statements: We can assist trustees in designing a spending policy that balances the need to provide benefits and the need to maintain assets in the fund for the long–term. Additionally, we can coordinate the creation of an Investment Policy Statement through Merrill Investment Policy Statement services. It should be consistent with the organization's goals and serve as a strategic road map for management of assets.

Strategic asset allocation and rebalancing: We evaluate a wide variety of asset classes and investment styles to help your organization pursue its investment objectives. Once an allocation is implemented, we review it regularly and rebalance as necessary to help keep it aligned with your goals.

Investment manager search, selection and reviews: When considering outside investment managers for you, we conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis to identify managers with outstanding track records and solid risk control procedures. We also regularly evaluate the performance and risk profile of your investment managers relative to peers and asset–class benchmarks.

Board member and investment committee education: We conduct training and information sessions in which we talk with key decision makers about such matters as investment performance, asset allocation and capital market updates. We can also educate new and existing foundation committees and staff on the connection between spending policies, grant making and investment results.

"We are dedicated to supporting the organizations we serve and take pains to see that what we do for them is consistent with their values and image. We screen investments accordingly and take particular care with our execution."

Helping Nonprofit Organizations With Their Special Needs and Issues

Members of investment committees and boards of endowments and foundations have a significant responsibility with respect to the assets under their care. The philanthropic requirements of nonprofit endowments place special constraints on investment decisions, including the necessity of maintaining sufficient assets to sustain the organization's spending policy. We understand that many board members do not have the time, resources or expertise to develop, implement and monitor a long–range investment strategy for addressing the challenges they face.

Scott Fitzenreiter, supported by members of The Slater King Fitzenreiter Group, follows a disciplined process that allows him to respond to organizations' changing needs and develop customized strategies to help them pursue their long–term financial goals and support their missions. We are committed to building lifetime connections to you and your organization through personal, in–depth involvement at every stage of the process.

Socially Responsible Investing

We serve a number of organizations that want to have a portion of their investments aligned with their religious or socially conscious principles. Scott, with the support of the team, can help develop or revise socially responsible investing (SRI) policies that define investment guidelines based on your institution's specific ethical, moral and environmental concerns. We can then assist you in constructing an investment portfolio in line with these guidelines, as well as with your organization's risk tolerance. Adjustments can be made easily at any time but we will periodically review your portfolio to help ensure those SRI specific securities are still inline with your institution's SRI policy and risk profile.
