Robert L. Moon is the founder and leader of the Moon Group, a wealth management team within the Merrill Private Wealth Management. Rob works with a select group of ultra-affluent executives, entrepreneurs, and private equity partners located throughout the United States. Rob leads the team’s overall strategy and client outreach, devising integrated wealth management offerings and access to family office services: investment management, wealth transfer, cash flow analysis, customized credit and lending through Bank of America, N.A., luxury good acquisition, and philanthropy. Rob recognizes that significant wealth conveys a different set of opportunities, concerns, and priorities; he has built his team to cater to the specific requirements of ultra-affluent clients and their families.
Rob has worked in wealth management since 1993. He is particularly skilled in helping clients navigate significant crossroads in their financial lives. For senior executives, he helps design concentrated and restricted stock strategies that seek to inject negative correlation within a client’s investment portfolio; he also directs the team’s option and benefit analyses. For entrepreneurs, Rob coordinates pre- and post-liquidity event strategies to help families retain more of their wealth through tax-sensitive investment, wealth transfer, and philanthropic initiatives. For private equity partners, Rob taps an extensive network of contacts, facilitating deal generation, idea exchange, and relationship management.
Rob joined Merrill in 2008. Previously, he was a Senior Advisor with Citigroup/Smith Barney, where he worked for fifteen years. He holds an M.A. from the University of Pittsburgh and a B.A. from Salisbury University. He holds the Certified Portfolio Manager designation (CPM). Rob is a specially qualified Senior Portfolio Manager who, in addition to providing traditional advice and guidance, can help clients pursue their objectives by building and managing his own personalized or defined strategies, which may incorporate individual stocks and bonds, Merrill model portfolios, and third-party investment strategies. Senior Portfolio Managers are provided a high degree of flexibility in constructing portfolios and selecting securities. When servicing clients through the Firm’s Investment Advisory Program, a Senior Portfolio Manager may manage his strategies on a discretionary basis. After meeting certain additional requirements, a Senior Portfolio Manager may use his own strategies to manage the assets of clients working with other Merrill Advisors.
Rob is involved in a number of philanthropic activities. He supports African literacy and adoption initiatives including Wide Horizons for Children; a local food bank, The Crisis Bread Basket; and Ballet Hispanico, a New York City arts organization that preserves and celebrates Latino cultures through dance.
